How do you feel about religion as a whole?
by FatherFirst init just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.
just curious, a personal poll if you will.
what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?

@ EndofMysteries,
"500/1000 years ago when much of the world was warring tribes religion is what brought peace."
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!
Come now, are we living on the same planet?
Over 1500 years ago - it's referred to as the Dark Ages - Europe was a barbaric feudalistic region with constant warfare amongst them. Throughout that time period we had the holy wars of Constantine; the inquisitions with its victims often times burned at the stake; the Catholic Protestant wars; the Taiping civil war in China and so forth.
In the United States you had the puritans hanging women simply because they belonged to another religion.
It was when Europe became secularized that we had advancement in civilization.
Look at the fruit of Christendom's reigned of terror:

The Watchtower are Right About Blood...
by cofty in... but, they fail to take note of one important detail.. i believe that if we are going to have any chance of reasoning with a jw about blood, this is the place we need to begin.. don't try to convince them that it was only a dietary law.
it wasn't, and they will never go along with it.. don't tell them that saving a life is more important than obeying a law, even a seemingly trivial one.
they take pride in obedience.

Excellent post cofty. I thought of the same thing a while back. That thought led me to some weird conclusions like justifying, from the Bible's point of view, the Maasai cattle herders who occasionally drink the blood of their cattle without killing them. -

Finkelstein,
"There are Christian based religions that dont break apart families..."
Unfortunately both ends of the 'Christian' spectrum apply and ignore whatever verses are convenient to their personal ego. Fundamentalist Christians in the US despise the poor even if they're one of them and they would not be caught dead following Acts 2:44-45.
Then there are liberal Christians who, regardless of how altruistic and easy going they are, ignore scriptures like:
49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” - Luke 12:49-53 New International Version
What is a true Christian and where are they?

TYPES AND ANTITYPES: Transcript of discourse by David Splane at October 2014 Annual Meeting
by Gilgamesh inwhile working on a comments for one of the articles in the march 15, 2015 watchtower (on types and antitypes) i decided to make a transcript of the talk that turned into that particular article.
as usual, the article that finally saw print had evolved quite a bit from the original.. anyway, here's the transcript that i also put up on the ad1914.com site.. the 2014 annual meeting program video can be found on tv.jw.org (currently found under programs and events).
the following speech can be found about the 2 hour and 8 minute mark in the video.

I was barely out of adolescence when I wrote a letter to an elder about my misgivings of some of the doctrines. I mentioned the anti-type issue with a silly poem:
"Typically typical, this type is full of types and even anti-types."
Needless to say they didn't appreciate that. I was df'd for that letter.

vinman,
"The Watchtower did not teach about why to trust Bible. Did not teach me why I need to worship Yahweh. Did not teach me the reality of Jesus,"
I realize that the Watchtower has nothing worthy to teach us but you tied in your beliefs to the Universe's existence and I responded with an example of 'Creation' that should cause people to think twice before attributing it to the Judeo-Christian-Muslim god.
By the way, have you read Carl Sagan's book Cosmos?

"The first answer that comes to my mind is: to get the result of crashing two galaxies."
If such a god were the all knowing god of the Bible or any similar religion he would already know what the results would be before he even creates those galaxies.
"If, from the micro perspective, you happened to live on one of those small molecular structures facing destruction you'd have one view."
I think the OP had a much more benevolent creator in mind who counts every hair on your head.

The Universe shows signs of order and disorder but not intelligence. The picture down below should help explain why. Why would God crash two galaxies together?

Atheism
by Jonathan Drake inrecent events and book reads (one suggested by cofty i believe- thank you) have lead me to the only logical and acceptable conclusion:.
there is no god.. simple logical reasoning: matter can neither me created or destroyed.
so the amount of mass in the universe is constant.

@ Cofty,
"Specify any god that is worshipped today, or ever has been worshipped, and we can prove beyond all reasonable doubt that it does not exist."
One can conceive of a Deistic god who created the Universe in the way a scientist would run an experiment just to see what happens. No Bible, no immortality or judgment, no communicating with us Earthlings. Proving or disproving such a 'god' might not be possible but he could still be there.
